The UK Forestry Jobs Newsletter shares the best curated forestry jobs in the UK, from tree planting to director level.
We all know what a traditional job interview is. You go into a cramped boardroom, get a glass of water and get asked where you see yourself in five-years-time.
But in forestry, things can be different. Many employers like to do first or second interviews out in the forest or on a work site. The purpose of this is to see what you’re really like, how much do you know and what are your understandings of site safety.
For machinery operators, it’s a chance for you to show off your knowledge and skills. You can expect questions about daily checks, basic fault recognition and how to manage safety on a site.
For prospective managers, you might be asked about how you would solve challenges on site, be asked to identify tree varieties, estimate volume of a log stack or suggest alternative approaches.
This isn’t designed to catch you out, instead it’s an opportunity for you to shine, to show how competent you are and how much you know.
You can prepare for these interviews by anticipating some of these questions and rehearsing the answers in your mind or out loud to a friend or loved one.
