The UK Forestry Jobs Newsletter shares the best curated forestry jobs in the UK, from tree planting to director level.
Forestry is often seen as a strong, practical industry with good work and good people, but the reality is that not every business, contractor, or worker has it easy. Costs are high, margins can be tight, jobs can fall through, and the pressure of trying to keep everything moving can take its toll. For many in the industry, it’s a sector they care deeply about, which makes the tough times feel even heavier when things aren’t going to plan.
That’s why it’s worth saying plainly that struggling does not mean failing. Plenty of people in forestry will go through periods where work is uncertain, money is tight, or stress starts to build up. It can be easy to keep pushing on and hope it passes, but sometimes the most important thing is to pause and acknowledge when things are getting too much.
If you’re finding things difficult, a few first steps can help:
Talk to someone you trust, whether that’s a friend, colleague, or family member.
Speak to your GP if stress, low mood, anxiety, or depression are affecting you.
Ask about counselling or mental health support through your GP or workplace, if available.
Reach out to support groups such as Andy’s Man Club if you want a space to talk and listen.
Don’t keep it all bottled up, especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed or alone.
If things feel unsafe or you’re in crisis, seek urgent help right away.
Forestry is built on resilience, but that should apply to people as well as businesses. Looking after yourself, and asking for help when you need it, is part of staying in the industry for the long haul.
